Alexandre Eppinghaus Varella
Graduated from the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in 1998. From 1991 to 1993, he acted as a trainee at the law Firm of Villemor Amaral Advogados. In January 1995, he joined Veirano e Advogados Associados, first as a trainee and later as a lawyer, where he worked at the Firm's civil litigation department until 2001, when he left to constitute his own law Firm, Varella & Advogados Associados. For all his career, Alexandre has been involved in litigation, assisting foreign and national clients from the most diversified areas. In addition to civil and commercial litigation, Alexandre is an experienced lawyer on Administrative Law and Bankruptcy field, counseling and representing his clients on judicial liquidation and judicial reorganization. Alexandre has started assisting Export Credit Agencies (“ECAs”) during the year of 1996, when he first handled a collection case in Brazil on behalf of Export Import Bank of United States (“Ex-Im Bank”). Afterwards, he has been assisting Ex-Im Bank on collection matters in quite a lot of cases, including judicial and extrajudicial collections, debt rescheduling instruments and the rendering of legal opinions on Brazilian legal issues related to the enforcement of credit instruments and collaterals thereof, among others. As a consequence of his expertise on collection of ECAs credits in Brazil, Alexandre through his Firm has also been retained by the Export Development of Canada (“EDC”) and the Oesterreichische Kontrollbank AG (“OeKB”) to render legal services regarding the collection of credits arising from export financing and to assist on the origination of the finance transactions, including the draft and proper execution of loan documents, guarantee instruments and the registry thereof before the corresponding Brazilian Notaries and Agencies. Upon the acknowledged expertise in legal advice related to the origination and negotiation of export financing credits, Alexandre has been retained by lenders and manufacturers located in United States of America, Canada and Europe to render legal services during the contracting phase, asset management and credit recovery. In addition to Ex-Im Bank, OeKB and EDC, Alexandre is currently rendering legal services on renegotiation and collection of credits backed by the Luxembourg Export Credit Agency (“ODL”), the UK Finance, Euler Hermes and SACE. He is fluent in English.
